Telling Game

Telling Game
Banned fortune telling game – can’t think of name?

There is this old board game, it isn’t really a game, but it’s like a board with a bunch of letters on it (ABCDEFG…) and a triangle looking block of wood and a ’spirit’ moves the block to letters to ’spell out your future’…I can’t think of the name of it. It’s mentioned in Kit Pearson’s book ‘Looking at the Moon’….and I think it was banned in certain places for witchcraft or something…Does anyone know what I’m talking about? I want to say it’s called an Omji or Obji board or something, but whatever I Google doesn’t work…

Hi,
I know you used to be able to buy Ouji Boards (as a game) in my area in England but they WERE taken off the shelves along time ago. They are easy to make though. Some people have bad experiences with them while others dont.

Heres some info on it if its of any help to you?

A Ouija board is commonly used in divination and spiritualism, often by friends out to have some fun. Sometimes users become convinced they’ve been contacted by the spirit world. The board usually has the letters of the alphabet inscribed on it, along with words such as ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ ‘good-bye’ and ‘maybe.’ A planchette, a small 3-legged device with a hole in the middle or a pointer of some sort, is manipulated by those using the board. However, users often feel the planchette is moving of its own accord rather than responding to their own unconscious muscle movements he users ask a “spirit” a question and the pointer slides until it stops over “yes” or “no” or a letter on the board. Sometimes the selections “spell out” an answer to a question asked.

It seems alot of people disbelieve in them and say they are fake BUT i would just like to say that my mum played with one when she was young and single. They asked it if she would ever marry and it said “yes”. They then asked it who would she marry and it spelt out the intitals R.J.C.W.

Approx 23 years LATER my mum met my dad and married. His initals are R.J.C.W. Real or Not….but theres no other explanation to it.

"You who see, tell the others." — Audre Lorde In this intimate memoir, Patricia Weaver Francisco tells of her fifteen-year journey to recognize and overcome the effects of a violent rape. Francisco explores key aspects of a women’s life in the aftermath of rape–passion, marriage, solitude, childbirth, motherhood. She invites the reader into her life and into the questions raised by a crime with no obvious solutions or easy answers. We see the dimensions of a human struggle often kept hidden from view. While there are an estimated twelve million rape survivors in the United States, rape is still unspeakable, left out of our personal and cultural conversation. In Telling, Francisco has found a language for the secret grief carried by men and women who have survived rape. Telling opens us to an experience both common and mysterious, wrenching and full of triumph. Describing her fear during and after the rape in a visceral, unforgettable style, Francisco details the transformation of trauma into strength. This transformation begins by learning to talk about rape, to understand the resistance she encounters in herself and others. She chronicles a complex journey, both surprising and recognizable. Aspects of her life deepen; others don’t survive. She wrestles with spiritual despair, outrage, and a longing for justice. But with awareness comes the return of pleasure, hunger, and desire. She reminds us " beautiful the dignity of truth can be" and inspires in us a desire to listen, to know the truths that can transform our own lives. She also gives us a clear portrait of the tragic consequences for the survivor–and our culture–when we neglect this human story. Told with grace and a soul-stirring eloquence, Telling is, in the end, a form of power. It will leave you with a sense of hope and a renewed appreciation for life’s possibilities. A compelling and important book, Telling will start the conversations that can bring hope and healing to the women who need it, and to their loved ones trying to help them.

Gypsy Rickwood's Fortune Telling Book

Gypsy Rickwood’s Fortune Telling Book

$30.48

GYPSY RICKWOOD’S FORTUNE TELLING BOOK. By Gypsy Rickwood. This intriguing book on the mystic art of fortune telling was first published in the 1920s, and is very scarce in its first edition. OBSCURE BOOKS PRESS has now re-published it using the original text. Gypsy Rickwood wrote this book "for the English speaking public in the hope that would give good counsel to many, and some amusement to those who regard it simply as a game." His method is a very old one, practiced by wandering tribes of gypsies long before it was ever set down roughly on paper, and the answers to the questions have been slightly modernized by the original translator. One hundred and twenty five pages are divided into the fifty four questions which a fortune teller is most likely to be asked. These are almost always on four main subjects:- Concerning Life. – Concerning Love. – Concerning Chance. – The Last Lap. (Old age and the distant Future.) The gypsy’s reply depends upon a turn of the card, with some 3000 answers listed in the book. The author emphasises that the accuracy of the answers depends largely on the sincerity of the questioner. If questions of an unsuitable nature are asked, the answers should be given in the same frivolous vein! This is a most entertaining little book which will prove both a source of amusement to some and thought provoking to others. "From the truth to a lie is but a hands-breadth." Romany Proverb.
